Health and Wellness

SDG nº 3

Our purpose as a company is to improve people's health through organic cotton.

It may seem like an ambitious goal, but it is nothing more than what we have been doing for 30 years.

As clothing consumers, we must bear in mind that the fibers we wear have a direct impact on the health of our skin. Conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or even Multiple Chemical Sensitivity can be accentuated by the use of garments made with synthetic fibers and finished with dyes and chemical fixatives. The use of natural fibers, such as OCCGuarantee® organic cotton, free of toxins both in its essence and in its transformation process, help maintain the balance in the PH of our skin.

At Organic Cotton Colours we are fully committed to Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Health and Wellbeing. Guaranteeing a healthy life and promoting the well-being of all at all ages is one of our main missions.

Beyond the fiber, do you think that how we wash clothes also affects our health and that of the ecosystem?

The answer is a resounding YES. We should not limit the concept of organic fashion to clothing. The way we take care of them also affects our health and that of the ecosystem.

We break it down from three different perspectives:

1- Contamination by washing

The use of conventional detergents for washing causes all the good that OCCGuarantee® organic cotton fabrics offer our skin and the ecosystem to evaporate.

The chemical elements present in this type of detergent are transferred to the garment with washing. For this reason, a t-shirt made under our seal, totally harmless for a person with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, can be just as harmful as any conventional t-shirt if it has been washed with a chemical-based soap.

Once this contamination occurs, it is very difficult to erase its trace on the garment.

2- Environmental imbalance

The washing water ends up in rivers and seas after each cycle. Integrating back into the ecosystem. This water, in addition to the remains of chemical detergents that accompany it, generates an overnutrition of the sea floor that unbalances the levels of natural eutrophication and compromises the life of marine species.

3- Shorter duration = Big consumption

A wash with abrasive chemical products (to quickly remove dirt) will also affect the very structure of the fabric, damaging it more quickly and reducing the useful life of the garment. We will be forced to buy more frequently, fueling an intensive production system that puts economic profit before the preservation of finite natural resources.

At Organic Cotton Colours we believe that the union with projects committed to the planet and the people who inhabit it makes us grow.

That is why today we go hand in hand with Jabones Beltrán. Garment care professionals since 1921. Its line of Biobel products is produced with 100% natural plant ingredients. Without the use of petrochemicals or synthetic or ethoxylated ingredients. A brand that is also committed to a bulk sales model, promoting the reuse of packaging. Effectively endorsed by external laboratories. They have the Ecocert certification.

These weeks we have been busy washing our clothes with the different options that they offer us and we are delighted with the result. Never have our washed garments been so soft. We are also calm since we know that the washing process has all the guarantees that our health and the environment deserve.
